How Safe Is Vietnam For Tourists?

Contrary to the popular beliefs, Vietnam is a budding tourist destination. Every year, many millions from various parts of the globe flock in large numbers to enjoy the beaches and architectural wonders nested in this country. Since the region is alien to many, it is quite natural to have your doubts when the delicate issue of safety is raised. I can provide assurance that apart from a few stray incidents, the country is a perfect abode for retreats - yet, you will have to bear in mind certain other factors while journeying across the country.

Firstly, always keep your personal belongings, especially the travel documents (visa and passport) with you, while you venture out into the wilderness. You have to consider the local law enforcers, who might turn up around the corner asking for appropriate verifications. If you are unable to provide them with the required information, the rest of the days is going to be a bit gloomier than you had initially comprehended. Many foreigners often ignore this golden rule, and they end up facing the wrong side of the law.

The highly humid climate of Vietnam is a safe house for mosquitoes. You have two options - either to vaccinate yourself before gaining access to the country or to carry mosquito repellants. Once again, many tend to ignore this simple fact and find themselves admitted in the local hospitals (healthcare is not exactly good in the region). Although travel websites might ignore this fact, it is solely up to you - you must do your homework properly. It is better to keep a tab on hospitals and healthcare facilities present near your hotel for times of emergencies.

Strict law enforcement has resulted in the drastic lowering of pickpockets and thieves in the country. That statement does not necessarily mean that you are safe with your belongings. Rogue men can strike during any time of the day. You might never know that you are being emptied. Walking around with wades of dong displayed prominently in your pockets is not recommended, likewise. Travel with minimal money - this makes sense; even if you lose them on unlikely situations, it will never deter you from completing the vacation. The social and economic conditions are still taking a back seat in many regions across Vietnam. If you make yourself vulnerable to the rogues, no one else is to be blamed!

Besides, it is safer to opt for the generalized modes of transportation like trains and buses. Stray incidents involving tourists and taxis were on the rise some time back. Although it would take longer to move across cities, you will be able to return in one piece! Hitchhiking is not recommended. You are turning yourself into a potential target by asking for rides from strangers. Never opt for tempting custom tourist packages from shady looking personalities.

Well, the underlying scenario remains the same. People prey on foreigners out of necessity. This takes place in various parts of the globe, not just in Vietnam! Take care of yourself and best of luck with the trip.
